Exclusion Zone

EXCLUSION ZONE is a live audiovisual performance by snake_case which followed the installation 'dark site'. The visual imagery of the performance explores the physical infrastructure behind data storage and compute, in its intensity and violence. Where dark site imagines the silent, unlit architecture of autonomous data centres, EXCLUSION ZONE shows their violent reality. In order to maintain compute clusters, power lines, substations, fossil fuels, and huge amounts of electrical power are needed. EXCLUSION ZONE uses this raw force as its structural basis. Sound is used as an architectural, physicalised entity: ear-splitting high end and significant sound pressure create an environment where human bodies are vulnerable against zones of exclusion - spaces built for machines but hostile to the bodies that built them.
