Long Bio

Callum Murray is a London-based artist, composer, and musician whose practice inhabits the intersection of art, sound, and technology. By developing algorithmic structures and rules-based systems, he utilizes iterative and procedural computing to redefine the boundaries of digital creativity. His work frequently investigates the friction between human intuition and machine logic, exploring how the two can co-improvise in real-time.

As an accomplished drummer and improviser, Callum's foundational interest in rhythm informs his exploration of the limits of perception. His aesthetic interests are wide, drawing inspiration from the tension between minimalism and maximalism, the subcultures of internet memes and video game "easter eggs," and the technical intricacies of synthesis and sound design. This is often filtered through a sense of irony and a deep engagement with online culture.

Beyond his solo practice—which currently focuses on producing new electronic music and live audiovisual performances—he is one half of the multimedia duo snake_case. Together, they create internationally recognized works that create speculative futures, exploring technology, time, and memory through multimedia installations.

Callum holds a BMus (Hons) 1st Class in Jazz Drums (2022) and an MMus 1st Class in Composition (2023) from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he was also awarded a Concert Recital Diploma. His work has gained significant international traction, with recent exhibitions and performances at Somerset House (UK), HOLON Berlin (DE), Berlin Fashion Week (DE), Helsinki Fashion Week (FI), Sónar Festival (ES), and Ars Electronica Festival (AT).
